About the Expedition

In the summer of 2025, David H. Scott, a 78-year-old Vietnam veteran, artist, author, and long-distance paddler, returns to the Mackenzie River to complete the final 500+ miles of a 1,000-mile journey to the Beaufort Sea.
After starting in 2022 and pausing due to health challenges, and again in 2024 due to wildfire smoke, David is now back on the river — equipped with Starlink satellite internet, GPS tracking, and video equipment to share the story in real-time.

Official Biography
David H. Scott (b. October 4, 1945) has logged more than 16,000 miles in canoes and kayaks since achieving sobriety at age 50. His expeditions include the Colorado River, the Yukon, Siberia’s Lake Baikal, Mongolia’s Lake Khuvsgul, and many more.
A survivor of colon cancer, living with prostate cancer, and a decorated Vietnam veteran, David uses his journeys to inspire others to embrace life’s challenges. His philosophy:
“If I drop dead, I want it to be doing something I love.”
When not paddling, David is an artist, author, and public speaker. He’s written two books — one about Vietnam and another about his journey to sobriety — with a third in progress.
